Where your data goes
Short version: nowhere. Trekplan runs on your own PC, your site lists and plans stay on it, and the only network calls it can make are ones you switch on yourself.
What Trekplan does with your data
Trekplan reads the CSV or Excel file you choose, plans routes from it, and writes the outputs (Excel plan, KML, GPX) to the folder you choose. None of that is transmitted anywhere. There is no account, no sign-in, no telemetry, no usage analytics, no crash reporting and no licence server.
Trekplan makes at most two kinds of network connection, both under your control:
- Real road distances (off by default). If you choose “Real roads” and enter your own OpenRouteService API key, Trekplan sends the coordinates of your sites, together with that key, to openrouteservice.org to look up driving distances. That service then handles the request under its own privacy terms. Distances it returns are cached on your PC only. If your coordinates are confidential, leave this switched off: the straight-line estimate needs no network.
- Version check at startup (direct-download edition only).
The edition downloaded from this website asks
trekplan.co.zawhether a newer version exists. The request carries the app’s own version number and nothing else — no site data, no personal data, nothing that identifies you or your machine. You can turn it off under Help → “Check for updates at startup”. The Microsoft Store edition never makes this call: the Store handles its updates.
What is stored on your PC
Your settings (last file, window size, theme, planning options) are saved in
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Trekplan\settings.json; the Microsoft Store edition keeps the same file inside its
own app-data folder, which Windows removes when you uninstall. If you enter an OpenRouteService key it is stored
there encrypted for your Windows account, so it cannot be read by another user or on another machine. Road
distances you look up are cached in ors_road_cache.json beside it. Delete those files to reset.
Buying Trekplan
Trekplan itself collects no payment or contact information. If you buy through the Microsoft Store, Microsoft processes the purchase under the Microsoft Privacy Statement; we see aggregate sales figures and no individual buyer details. If you buy the direct download, the checkout is handled by Gumroad under its own privacy policy, and we receive your e-mail address solely to deliver the download and answer support requests. We do not sell, share or use it for marketing.
This website
trekplan.co.za is a static site with no cookies, no analytics and no third-party scripts. It is hosted by Netlify, whose servers keep standard, short-lived access logs (IP address, page requested, time) for operating the service.
Support e-mail
When you write to support@trekplan.co.za we keep the correspondence for as long as it takes to resolve your question and to honour the licence (for example, to confirm a purchase). Log text you paste into a support mail contains file paths and route statistics from your run; send only what you are comfortable sharing.
Your rights and contact
Because Trekplan holds no data about you, there is nothing for us to export or delete on the app side; anything on your PC is yours to delete directly. For questions about this policy, or to have support correspondence removed, e-mail support@trekplan.co.za. Trekplan is published by Corné Fick t/a Trekplan, Hermanus, South Africa, and this policy is governed by the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
Changes to this policy are dated at the top of this page. If Trekplan ever gains a network feature beyond the two above, this page, the in-app manual and the FAQ on the home page will all say so before it ships.
